The Phantom Detective #114 Audiobook
Billion-Dollar Blitz
by Robert Wallace
Read by Milton Bagby
Forged in war, The Phantom Detective wages a one-man battle on crime! Solving impossible mysteries and delivering his own justice, he is the underworld’s masked nightmare!
While a vicious gang war rages, the Phantom Detective goes into lightning action to halt the greatest fraud that has ever been perpetrated upon the public! Murder and extortion go hand-in-hand as a gigantic crime conspiracy unfolds and only one man has the razor-sharp intellect and deductive genius to tear this vile plan apart - The Phantom Detective!
With issue twelve of The Phantom Detective magazine, the house name of ‘G. Wayman Jones’ was retired and the author credited with most, if not all the first eleven stories of this character, D. L. Champion moved onto other series, while still continuing to also contribute to the Phantom Detective. Champion’s other series of note focused on a physically challenged and most likely completely insane police detective, Inspector Allhoff.
In order to continue the series, another house name was created, that of Robert Wallace. The parade of authors who would add to The Phantom Detective’s library of tales as Wallace is voluminous and includes not only Champion, but also Laurence Donovan, Edwin V. Burkholder, Norman A. Daniels, who wrote more than 36 of them, Anatole F. Feldman, C. S. Montanye, Laurence Donovan, Ryerson Johnson, Henry Kuttner, Ralph Oppenheim, Norvell W. Page, Paul Chadwick, Paul Ernst, Ray Cummings, and Emile C. Tepperman.
As a pen name, ‘Robert Wallace’ was not simply pulled from thin air. Hoping readers would relate the name to a well-known British author of thrillers, Edgar Wallace, Thrilling Publications would use the same house name on short stories and novel length tales outside of The Phantom Detective series.
‘Billion-Dollar Blitz’ was originally published in the December 1942 issue of The Phantom Detective Magazine and is read with pulse pounding intensity by award winning voice actor Milton Bagby.

Milton Bagby is a veteran radio announcer and voiceover specialist who first turned to audiobooks in 2010. Since then, Milton has worked on several hundred audiobook projects and is a 2017 Audie Awards winner, the audiobook industry's highest award. Drawing upon years of stage acting and the occasional bit part in films, Milton uses his experience to create characters that stand out in the ear of the listener.
“I am very much aware that a perfect stranger is going to invest many hours listening to me tell a story. I do my best to give the listener an experience in which the characters in that story come alive and sound real.”
When not behind a microphone, Milton is a writer. In addition to the well-received Rick Burkhart crime novels, Milton writes a line of 1950s style pulp stories, and is the author of dozens of magazine articles and two non-fiction books. Milton and his wife live in Nashville.
