The Black Bat #40 Audiobook
The Lakeside Murder
by G. Wayman Jones
Read by Milton Bagby

Out of the night comes a menacing winged figure! Blind district attorney Tony Quinn takes his battle for justice from the courtrooms to the streets, battling evil as The Black Bat!

When Special District Attorney Tony Quinn takes a trip to Florida, the Black Bat’s right on hand to combat an international combine of kidnappers, crooks and killers! The masked nemesis of crime accepts the challenge of lawless dealers in doom!

The Black Bat did not fight alone. As a matter of fact, his three allies stood out from the teammates of other heroes in really unique ways. Silk Kirby had been a career criminal himself, one of the ilk which Tony Quinn spent his career both before and after the mask combatting. Convinced to turn over a new leaf by Quinn, Silk would prove invaluable due to his knowledge of the underworld and his ability to often pretend to still be on the side of the lawless. Carol Baldwin also had her ties to crime, in a couple of ways. She not only had an undercover role in a gang, but she also was the daughter of the fallen policeman who donated his eyes to restore Tony Quinn’s vision. Butch O’ Leary rounded out the trio. Not the strongest in the brain department, this nearly down and out boxer brought the brawn to the team, coming to The Black Bat’s attention when risking his life to save a crowd from being gunned down.

What makes these three stand out is that they are not necessarily geniuses or experts in any particular field. Silk knows how a criminal’s mind works and Butch is good with his fists, but they are not masters in their fields. They also come to The Black Bat’s aid out of their own personal motivations. Silk is pursuing redemption of sorts, Carol is continuing the work of her father, and Butch is just generally an all around selfless sort of guy.
