Suspense
Volume 10

“This is the Man in Black, here to introduce this weekly half-hour of...Suspense!”

Being a radio classic, Suspense is a program that simply hit the mark in several areas, making sure it would be well remembered still today. One such aspect concerned the show’s opening. From the early days of the program, William Spier knew that it was necessary to catch the audience’s attention almost immediately. To this end, he crafted dialogue that allowed the host to pull listeners into the intensity of the moment, even before the tale started. Words built up tension, setting the scene for stories likely to end badly for their characters. Mixing this narration with music and an effective fictional host, ‘The Man in Black’, Spier made sure the audience stayed on the edge of their seats through each episode.

Ted Osborne portrayed the mysterious Man In Black during the first year of Suspense’s run on the radio – from 1942-43. Osborne also gave voice to many supporting characters in a variety of episodes during Suspense’s long run on the radio dial.

While actor Joseph Kearns is best known as the curmudgeonly next door neighbor Mister George Wilson in CBS’ television show Dennis the Menace in the 1950s, he was the other of two actors who gave Suspense’s Man In Black his voice. Joseph Kearns’ role in Suspense extended far beyond that of giving voice to the mysterious figure as he narrated each 30 minute episode. Kearns, like Osborne before him, also played many supporting characters, along with the occasional leading role, in hundreds of shows throughout the series’ 20 year run on radio - from stern judges to kindly old-timers, and even playing whiney cowards.

Considered a true classic and a hallmark of entertainment from Radio’s Golden Age, Suspense still thrills and chills listeners today. Enjoy six hours of mystery, terror, and enjoyment in Suspense, Volume 10, restored to the finest audio quality possible, from Radio Archives.

5 of 5 Elsa Maxwell advertises ROMA Wines May 17, 2019
Reviewer: Richard McLeod from RIVERSIDE, CA United States
Once Elsa Maxwell was a household name and her endorsements helped to promote and sell any product.  She can be heard endorsing ROMA Wines on these episodes of SUSPENSE.  In addition to Elsa Maxwell this volume includes many well known Hollywood Stars from Claire Trevor, Thomas Mitchell, Nancy Kelly, Boris Karloff (one of Hollywood's greatest and well known horror actors) and many others in very suspenseful well written stories that will linger in one's memory for a long time.

The Radio Archives staff has restored these episodes of SUSPENSE back to a quality level that could easily be compared to the audio quality radio listener's heard at the initial time each show was broadcast on the air.  The audio and tonal quality is exceptional and has no comparisons from my experience.
Each Volume comes in sturdy plastic cases with individual sleeves for added protection including unique and colorful artwork for each set.  Downloads are also available.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
