Secret Agent "X" #18 Audiobook
Legion of the Living Dead
by Paul Chadwick writing as Brant House
Read by Milton Bagby

A nameless mystery man with a wartime past, backed by a shadowy group of powerful philanthropists, Secret Agent “X” took on the toughest assignments of the dirty thirties. Operating out of the half-haunted Montgomery Mansion, “X” was also known as the Man of a Thousand Faces. A past master of disguise, he infiltrated the Underworld to crush crime in all of its hideous manifestations.

From nowhere hurtled that black death car...from nowhere came its grisly occupants. They were not of this earth, for their human flesh was immune to bullets. They were not of the grave, for they manned the wheel and a blasting machine gun...Secret Agent “X” made a desperate maneuver to block their invasion of the land of the living. In that weird terror trap he came face to face with a man he knew...a man he knew had died five years ago.

The enigma of enigmas, Secret Agent “X” has been deputized by a high government official to battle the darkest, most diabolical enemies of America before they sink their poisonous fangs into the nation’s healthy core. Faceless and unsung, “X” infiltrates these threats in a bewildering array of disguises.

Operating out of the supposedly haunted Montgomery Mansion, Secret Agent “X” ventures forth in a bewildering array of false identities to infiltrate the darkest underbelly of the underworld—and destroy it from within. A master investigator of a thousand guises and surprises. The only clue to his true identity is his haunting whistle…..

Characters besides “X” blurred the line between crime and weird horror. Paul Chadwick’s Wade Hammond was a character cast in the hard boiled detective mold who confronted mad scientists and the like in every case. The authors behind Secret Agent “X” truly brought the tale where mystery meets menace into its own.

Follow the Man of a Thousand Faces as he confronts the menace of Legion of the Living Dead, ripped from the pages of Secret Agent “X” magazine, September 1935 and read with chilling intensity by Milton Bagby.
