5 of 5 Matinee with Bob & Ray Vol. 3 May 20, 2022
Reviewer: Lee Withers from Pasco, WA United States
Boston had no idea what hit it when Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding began their "Matinee with Bob & Ray" on WHDH in the late 1940s. Fortunately, their gentle satire from their formative years is delightfully preserved by Radio Archives in a third volume of twelve half-hours digitally remastered from original WHDH 16" transcription discs. To single out a particular episode would be pointless, as they're all worth listening to (and yes, B&R fans, you'll hear even more of Linda Lovely, the precursor to their longer running soap opera parody, Mary Backstayge). "The Two And Only" were at their best when they were biting the hand that was feeding them, radio...which was every time they got behind the microphone. There's a reason these two are legendary. And the proof is in this set.

While these shows in some ways are more conventional than their later work, they are not the less brilliant and highly entertaining. The audio quality is excellent, well worth purchasing for fans.
