The quest tor a corpse sends a fighting Federal Agent into the midst of a million dollar steal, with strict orders to shoot fast — or die! Dan Fowler and Larry Kendal are candidates for slaughter when they probe an election!
It’s odd to imagine that a single pulp magazine was a favorite of both America’s top cop and its once top criminal, but that may have been true. It was stated in G-Men Magazine and believed to be true, at least for the earliest Dan Fowler stories, that each tale had to be approved by the Director of the F.B.I., J. Edgar Hoover. Although this may not have been the whole truth, it is believed that Hoover was aware of the magazine and its contents, as he was extremely interested in the Bureau’s public image. G-Men Magazine was also, according to several sources, a favorite read of Al Capone, once considered the most dangerous man in America. It is rather interesting to think of these two men, different in so many ways, having their own interests in reading Dan Fowler G-Man!
Although there’s no firm evidence that the Dan Fowler tales bore the personal stamp of approval from Hoover before being published, it is known that the director was not bashful about recognizing the stories he liked after publication. Letters from Hoover to the publishers of G-Men, as well as the other magazines dedicated to the F.B.I. were badges of honor and shared amongst publishers in the industry. As a matter of fact, editors worked diligently to craft stories that were sure to get such letters of recognition from Hoover, a fair exchange they often felt for making sure his name was somewhere in their F.B.I. magazines.
