Private Detective Stories eBook
February 1948

Total Pulp Experience. These exciting pulp adventures have been beautifully reformatted for easy reading as an eBook and features every story, every editorial, and every column of the original pulp magazine.

A steely-eyed private dick with an unshaven jaw of granite... a gat of dull gun-metal gray sags heavily under his armpit... he works the seamy underbelly of the city, coming up against squinty-eyed thugs, weasels who value human life less than the coins jingling in their pocket, and red-lipped bimbos with hot breath, wide eyes and long silky legs. The stories are hard, gritty and action-packed. They fairly scream, "pulp!" This was what Private Detective Stories offered beginning with its first issue in June of 1937. It came from the same publisher who brought you Blazing Western, Candid Detective, The Lone Ranger Magazine, Speed Adventure Stories and Speed Mystery. In all, 134 issues were published until the magazine closed in June of 1949. Private Detective Stories returns in these vintage pulp tales, reissued for today’s readers in electronic format.

Table of Contents:

Feature Novel, Complete in This Issue
Killer On Sight
by Norman Daniels
It was probably the dirtiest trick of his checkered career but Jim Talbot had to play it in order to induce a certain wayward young lady that she would be admitted back into the family fold; only the trick backfired and Talbot had trouble.

Dead Guy’s Trap — Outstanding Novelette
by Geoffrey North
Kinsella was drunk enough to think he could ride along with blind luck, for he was a happy gumshoe — until he found himself in possession of a stone that meant certain death unless he solved the setup surrounding the precious stone, without aid.

Bright Light Kill — Outstanding Novelette
by Dale Clark
A manhunt had been going on for a week now but it took that long for Socrates to take any action, but when he did, it meant that private-eye McKane would become involved too; and that meant proving a confessed killer innocent of two murders.

Mix A Stiff One — Short Story
by John G. Potter
Dan Roark’s Celtic temper couldn’t take a massage but he received one when some peculiar happenings awakened his curiosity; but he was an upright citizen not influenced by the fact that being the one cook too many in murder could mean death.
