Even though a plethora of writers contributed to the nearly twenty-year canon of The Phantom Detective, only two names ever graced the covers or stories. G. Wayman Jones received credit as the author of the first eleven issues, with D. L. Champion writing the majority of those stories, though exactly how many is often in question. Beginning with issue twelve, Robert Wallace was the name in the byline. This name was likely chosen to gain momentum among readers due to the popularity of Edgar Wallace, a writer of mysteries and thrillers, although some experts believe it was simply a made up monicker completely. With the advent of the Wallace pen name, however, came a flood of writers over the ensuing years, making it rather difficult in many cases to determine which author actually wrote what Phantom Detective story. Part of this, according to some readers and experts, is the fact that, unlike his peers in the Hero Pulps, The Phantom Detective may have intentionally been written in a way that any skilled writer could essentially pen one of his adventures. Indeed, this adds credence to the legendary fact that many stories that ended up being printed as Phantom Detective tales really began as stories written for other heroes. Even with that, though, the impressive twenty year run of The Phantom Detective Magazine indicates that something about the character clicked with fans, regardless of the author or the occasional oddly fitting story.

Arsenal of Death was originally published in the April 1942 issue of The Phantom Detective Magazine and is read with pulse pounding intensity by award winning voice actor Milton Bagby.
