Fred Allen seemed to be on "The Big Show" more than any other guest and he worked well with Tallulah Bankhead. This final boxed set is as good as the first, as all who worked on the Show, from Musical Director Meredith Willson of "The Music Man" fame and other Broadway Musicals, had definitely worked out whatever kinks they may have dealt with in production. NBC tried to make this Show work in ratings (it was highly praised by the Critics at the time), but how could any Radio Show really infringe on the new medium of Television?
It was like the demise of Silent film, when the talkies came out, that spelled the end of the silent film. The same can be said of what happened to great Radio Shows such as "The Big Show".
Gloria Swanson said in the film "Sunset Boulevard", "We had faces then", referencing the demise of Silent Film. The same can be said of these early Radio Shows, "They had voices (and talent) then".
