The Phantom Detective #101 Audiobook
The Sabotage Murders
by Robert Wallace
Read by Milton Bagby

Forged in war, The Phantom Detective wages a one-man battle on crime! Solving impossible mysteries and delivering his own justice, he is the underworld’s masked nightmare!

The Phantom goes into action when the monkey-wrench of sabotage threatens to stall the machine of national defense! Follow the world’s greatest sleuth on the trail of a master conspirator!

With a publishing history spanning nearly twenty years, The Phantom Detective is a character that one would think had developed and gone through a variety of changes over two decades. In all fairness, the overall consistency of the character from his first appearance through his last is one of the reasons that fans still thrill to his adventures today. For the most part, The Phantom, as he was referred to in the stories, remained unchanged in almost all the important ways. Largely a street level hero, he relied on his tremendous crime fighting skills as well as talents in psychology, acting, and other areas, all self-taught throughout each story. He did not develop amazing powers like The Shadow, nor did he transform into a near perfect human like Doc Savage. He maintained a relatable level of being with his readers. Granted, he was a millionaire with resources at his disposal that most of his audience would never have, but with just a bit of suspension of disbelief, they could see in Van Loan someone similar to them; just a guy who saw a need to fight crime and using his own skills to do so.

The Phantom Detective’s tales, for a large part, contain a modicum of mystery, some puzzle or clue to be uncovered, whereas The Shadow is in many ways more super hero like, taking on supervillains for the safety of the entire world. This would make sense, seeing as how Detective is in the title of The Phantom Detective Magazine.

The Sabotage Murders was originally published in the July 1941 issue of The Phantom Detective Magazine and is read with pulse pounding intensity by award winning voice actor Milton Bagby.
