Description

Les Miserables
Volume 2

Les Miserables is a French historical novel by Victor Hugo, first published in 1862, that is considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century.

The novel as a whole is one of the longest ever written, with 655,478 words in the original French. Upton Sinclair described the novel as “one of the half-dozen greatest novels of the world”

Beginning in 1815 and culminating in the 1832 June Rebellion in Paris, the novel follows the lives and interactions of several characters, particularly the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his experience of redemption. Les Miserables has been popularized through numerous adaptations for film, television, radio and the stage, including a musical.

Les Miserables was a 52-episode radio serial created by George Edwards. Adapted from Victor Hugo’s powerful dramatic story of an ex-convict whose past was destined always to rise against him.

Edwards was well known as “The Man with a Thousand Voices.” Not only could he mimic multiple voices, Edwards could carry on complete conversations between characters he was playing. Edwards also brought authenticity to the roles he played, able to reproduce any tone or accent with his voice, save that of children or young women.

George Edwards formed his own production company and for twenty years between 1933 and 1953 - produced well over 300 radio series and serials, most of which featured him in at least six or seven individual roles.

Les Miserables, Volume 2, is a six-hour set containing the remaining twenty-five episodes of the series. The intense pacing of each episode as well as the high quality production values and the talented voice acting of George Edwards and the rest of the cast make this a must have for any fan of Classic Radio. Transferred from first generation master recordings and fully restored for excellent audio fidelity.

It's great to have another George Edwards series available! The sound quality is great, and I really enjoyed listening to the series! I've always loved the story of Les Miserables, and this is a good adaptation.
