X Minus One
Volume 4

"Countdown for blastoff ... X Minus five ... four ... three ... two ... X Minus one ... Fire!"

Most of the episodes featured on X Minus One were adaptations from two magazines. Astounding Science Fiction and Galaxy. Although several writers contributed to the development of the scripts from the original stories, Ernest Kinoy was responsible or, at the least, involved in a minimum of eighty of the adaptations featured in the nearly two and a half year run of the series.

Kinoy was a child during one of the most horrible periods in America, the Great Depression. While living during this tragic time, Kinoy was also alive while something less known at the time, something positive, was actually coming into being. Due to various pulp magazines focusing on the rather new, or at least newly identified genre of science fiction, people began reading and following these tales of the fantastic, growing into a community over the next few decades. Reading tales of outer space adventurers exploring new worlds and building a better future, Kinoy cited these influences among the reasons he became a writer. Kinoy found work as a script writer at NBC.

Kinoy served in the Armed Forces during World War II. He was captured and first interned at a prisoner of war camp, then at a forced labor camp when it was learned he was Jewish. In part due to this, Kinoy’s writing became focused on exploring concepts such as working together toward a progressive future, ideas extremely prevalent in science fiction.

After the war, Kinoy resumed working at NBC. His role there, as it was for many writers, was to essentially write whatever scripts were required of him. When NBC made the executive decision to move ahead with a science fiction program, Kinoy was a prime candidate for this due to the fact that he could easily adapt to any tone, thus he found himself as one of the head writers on X Minus One.

Blast off with twelve episodes of classic science fiction in X Minus One Volume 4, restored to sparkling audio quality by Radio Archives!
