The Green Ghost Detective Audiobook
#8 Three Short Stories
by G.T. Fleming-Roberts
Read by Roger Price

Magic meets mystery as George Chance battles crime as the Green Ghost! Thrills, legerdemain, and suspense — all courtesy of the most extraordinary man-hunter the world has ever known!

Thrill to a trifecta of mystery and magic! George Chance, avenging magician-detective, adopts the role of the Green Ghost to help ex-circus pals when a mysterious brutal killer runs amok in The Case of the Murderous Mermaid! In The Case of the Astral Assassin, the voice of an invisible menace demands huge sums from men of wealth, until the Green Ghost turns the tables on a murderous extortionist! Finally, when ghouls gather, the Green Ghost arrives to smash at the grim plans of a diabolical fiend in The Case of the Clumsy Cat.

It can be argued that the short story is a better vehicle for The Green Ghost than the longer pulp novels. With all the tales of George Chance being written by G. T. Fleming Roberts, it would seem like a pointless argument, until one understands just how prolific Roberts was in the pulp field. Although a fair number of his works included novel length tales featuring characters like Secret Agent X, The Black Hood, and of course The Green Ghost, Fleming-Roberts also showed a skill for writing in the shorter form, taking these larger than life characters and being able to relate solid adventures in shorter stories. A character such as The Green Ghost, who in reality is simply a man who uses skills of his trade to take on street level criminals and the occasional near madman, lends itself to a tightly told tale, something that Roberts excelled at in the days of pulp storytelling. Especially with the stories being mysteries as much as they were two fisted actioners, Roberts’ ability to narrow focus and really deliver a strong riddle and resolution stands out in these three tales.

Three Short Stories of the Green Ghost Detective were originally published in the pages of The Green Ghost Detective magazine and are read with mysterious and magical force by Roger Price.
